The New Zealand Road Transport and Logistics Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published October 2006
Planned review date December 2011
Summary of review and consultation process
The review of these seven unit standards, in the Cargo Operations and Port Machinery Operations domains, was initiated by their anticipated expiry dates of December 2005 and December 2006.
An Industry Advisory Group (IAG) was established, comprising technical representatives from within the ports and stevedoring sector, and a range of assessors and training providers. The members were asked to specifically focus on whether the unit standards were still meeting industry needs, and to recommend changes to the content and legislation of the unit standards to bring them up-to-date with current industry practice and to future proof them against potential industry changes.
Main changes resulting from the review
Main amendments made to the unit standards include updates to the legislation and the range statements of the performance criteria and incorporating into unit standard 18954 the Land Transport New Zealand requirements about driving a vehicle within a Port Area.
The opportunity was also taken during the review to make minor wording amendments to elements and performance criteria to ensure the unit standards can be understood easily and assessment can be carried out fairly.
