Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above that were registered in October 1999.

Date new versions published                        October 2006

Planned review date                        December 2011

Summary of review and consultation process

Svenska Cellulosa Aktiebolaget (SCA) Hygienehas completed a review of production in Australasia, and as a result, production has been rationalised in Australia and New Zealand.  This has resulted in the re-establishing of equipment in New Zealand for products previously discontinued.  Minor modifications have had to be made to unit standards to reflect the change in work practices.  Three new unit standards have also been developed.

The Tissue Advisory Group has developed the new unit standards and reviewed existing unit standards to meet the new needs.  Copies of drafts were circulated to all sites for comments and input.  Final drafts have been endorsed by the panel members and the pulp and paper sector advisory group.

These new and reviewed unit standards have been classified to the new Tissue Converting domain in the new Wood Fibre Manufacturing subfield, the previous classifications Pulp and Paper Manufacturing and Tissue Converting will be expired when all standards have been transferred.

Main changes resulting from the review

The review has resulted in the following changes:

·          The subfield Paper and Paper Manufacturing has been replaced by the subfield Wood Fibre Manufacturing.

·          Minor wording changes to elements and performance criteria to reflect workplace practices have occurred in three unit standards.

·          Three new unit standards have been developed.
