Summary of review and consultation process

 

Competenz conducted a review of these standards during 2005 in order to keep them current, incorporate improvements in the light of assessment experience, and add three new standards to provide for a planned qualifications review for the industry.  Consultation included members from the industry, the NZ Society of Gunsmiths, NZ Police, NZ Army, NZ Mountain Safety Council Inc, and a provider.  The changes were endorsed by the Sector Advisory Committee meeting on 19 August 2005.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·        Development of new standards, dealing with dismantling, inspection, assembly, and testing of firearms.

·        Development of a new standard for people advising on the establishment and compliance of shooting ranges.

·        Updated and improved special notes sections.

·        Improving consistency and clarification across the Gunsmithing standards.
