The Pharmacy Industry Training Organisation (PITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                        April 2007

Planned review date                        December 2012

Summary of review and consultation process

These unit standards have been reviewed as part of a wider review involving the Pharmacy qualifications.  Since previous versions were registered there have been changes in legislation and industry practice.  The review involved consultation with industry and providers, including a formal industry survey conducted in 2004, and a review of the unit standards' technical quality.  Final changes were made by an Industry Working Group representing industry sectors and other stakeholders.  The Working Group recommendations were endorsed by PITO's Qualifications Advisory Group.

In the process of reviewing qualification requirements, and in addition to replacement unit standards, 12 new unit standards were developed and these are listed at the end of this report.

Main changes resulting from the review

·        Unit standard 9648 has been replaced by unit standards 23654 and 23655

·        Unit standard 9650 has been replaced by unit standard 23656

·        Unit standard 9652 has been replaced by unit standards 23657-23671 to ensure specific coverage and assessment of the range of subject matter that was previously encompassed in unit standard 9652

·        Unit standards 9643, 9651, 9653-9655, and 9657 have had their credits reduced

·        Unit standard 9649 has had its credits increased

·        All category B reviewed unit standards have had changes of title

·        Special notes have been extensively reworked in terms of - the need for effective communication skills; requirements for work-based evidence; legislation, codes, and standards; ranges; definitions; compliance, restrictions, and in-house access to references

·        Elements and performance criteria have been extensively reworked in terms of content and structure to reflect current knowledge, skills, and compliance requirements.

Unit standards categorised as category C expire at the end of December 2009.
