The Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) Biosecurity Sector Committee has completed the review of the unit standard above.
Date new version published August 2007
Planned review date December 2012
Summary of review and consultation process
This standard was reviewed because of changes to the procedures for the surveillance of high risk sites in the urban forest environment. The changes were made following the review of the effectiveness of the procedures of High Risk Site Surveillance by Biosecurity New Zealand at the end of the 2007 surveillance season. Although all of the standards in the domain Forest Health Surveillance are scheduled for review during 2007, this standard is subject to urgent changes and it was decided to bring the review of the standard forward.
Main changes resulting from the review
· A change in the way that the transect boundaries are determined from the linear transect.
· The exclusion of herbaceous vegetation from inspection unless specifically included by special instruction from the Technical Liaison.
· The addition of another reference text for the identification of arborescent plants.
· Expansion of the method of plant identification.
· The introduction of Overview Maps and Block Maps, replacing maps based on the Risk Site Area.
· Expansion of the process of developing a Transect Vegetation Description.
· The introduction of a wider range of documentation to record High Risk Site Surveillance.
· An increase in the credit value of the standard, from 12 to 15.
