Summary of review and consultation process

 

Meetings involving Competenz, industry representatives and other key stakeholders were convened from the end of 2006 through to the middle of 2007 to undertake the review of Food and Related Product Processing unit standards.  Due to the number of unit standards under review, it took considerable time to consider the following:

 

·         The currency of the unit standards and their suitability for existing and proposed qualifications.

·         Current usage of unit standards.

·         The accuracy and appropriateness of their content.

·         Levels and credits commensurate with performance outcomes.

·         Any gaps in skills and/or knowledge that could be captured by the development of unit standards.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·         Amendments to elements and performance criteria to improve clarity and consistency.

·         Purpose statements amended to accommodate changes to the elements.

·         Improved special notes to better convey assessment parameters, including improved definitions, updated references to legislation and number of occasions/items required to show competence.

·         Range statements have been amended to clarify evidence requirements.

·         Twenty standards have been designated category D as they are no longer required by industry.

 

Unit standards categorised as category D expire at the end of December 2009.
