The Boating Industry Training Organisation (BITO) has completed the review of the qualification listed above.
Date new version published February 2007
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2010.
Summary of review and consultation process
The production trailer boat sector of the boatbuilding industry has identified the pressing need for training pathways that more specifically meet their requirements. The existing boatbuilding strands of the National Certificate in Boatbuilding (Composite and Alloy Boatbuilding) include some unit standards that are not entirely relevant to production trailer boats and some skill areas are not presently covered. Several large production trailer boat companies have been directly involved in the development of new unit standards and two new qualification strands. An industry consultation process allowed an opportunity for every employer to provide feedback on the content and the structure of the revised qualification and this feedback has been incorporated into this qualification review application.
This qualification review incorporates two new strands (Composite Production Trailer Boats and Alloy Production Trailer Boats) for inclusion in this qualification.
The introduction of training in the production trailer boat sector is regarded as a top priority by the BITO. As the BITO requires more time, the review of all other boatbuilding strands will be accommodated in a separate qualification review.
