The Printing & Allied Industries Training Council (PAITC), now trading as PrintNZ Training, has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                        January 2007

Planned review date                        December 2011

Summary of review and consultation process

These unit standards were reviewed as part of a review of the Printing - Graphic Communication and Digital Printing training programmes.  The Digital Printing unit standards were due for review in December 2006.

The review was conducted through consultation with industry representatives, providers, and members of PAITC; and in September a group of representatives met to discuss the changes required to the unit standards and the proposed new qualification structure.

The group was asked to consider the following:

·          The currency of the unit standards and their suitability for the proposed qualifications.

·          The accuracy and appropriateness of their content.

·          Whether the Level and credits correspond to performance outcomes.

·          Any gaps in skills and/or knowledge that could be captured by the development of new unit standards.

As a result of feedback it was agreed that, due to changes both in technology and industry requirements, the two existing domains be combined into one new domain and that all existing units from these two domains be reclassified under the new Digital Processes for Print domain.

Main changes resulting from the review

·        Unit standards in the Printing - Graphic Communication and Digital Printing domains have been reclassified in a new Digital Processes for Print domain.

·        Title of unit standard 17928 has been amended to reflect the new domain name.

·        Unit standard 23556 has replaced unit standards 17921 and 20096.

·        Unit standard 23557 has replaced unit standard 17922.

·        Unit standard 23558 has replaced unit standard 20098.

·        One new unit standard 23554 has been developed.

·        Level and credits of unit standard 17927 have changed.

·        Minor changes have been made to performance criteria and range statements in most unit standards.

Unit standards categorised as category C expire at the end of December 2011.
