The next qualification review for National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory) (Level 2) is planned to take place during 2011.

The qualification review for the National Certificate in Horticulture (Arboriculture) with strands in Ground Worker, Consultant Climber, Transplant Worker, Basic Climber, Advanced Climber, and Utility Worker[Ref: 0896] is due to be completed in 2007, and the review of the National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory) (Level 2) [Ref: 1013]is planned to take place during 2010.

Reason for the revision

The revision of the National Certificate in Horticulture (Arboriculture) with strands in Ground Worker, Consultant Climber, Transplant Worker, Basic Climber, Advanced Climber, and Utility Worker [Ref: 0896] was undertaken to take into account reviews of unit standards in the Pest Control and Production Horticulture domains, in which unit standards 14, 772, 5059, and 5060 were designated as expiring.  Following consultation with the Arboriculture Sector Advisory Group, NZHITO has removed unit standards 5059 and 5060 from the qualification, replaced unit standard 14 with unit standard 22174, and replaced unit standard 772 with unit standards 22177 and 22178.

It was brought to the attention of NZHITO that the National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory) (Level 2) [Ref: 1013] could be broadened to include relevant unit standards and achievement standards registered in the Agricultural and Horticultural Science domain.  Secondary school students are gaining credit for a number of these standards as a result of the implementation of the National Certificate in Educational Achievement.  Consultation with all education organisations accredited to assess against standards in the Horticulture subfield confirmed that this would be appropriate, and would be another step towards the integrated educational framework that NZHITO has been striving to achieve.

As a result of recent reviews the Plant and Garden Retail domain name has changed to Garden Retail and unit standards in the Organic Horticulture domain have been integrated into the Production Horticulture domain.  Amendments have been incorporated into the revised qualification to account for these changes.
