The Local Government Industry Training Organisation (LGITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                 July 2007

Expiry date of new versions of the unit standards           December 2012

Summary of review and consultation process

This review is the second of two stages in an overall review of unit standards in the Compliance and Regulatory Control domain.  The first stage dealt with 17 unit standards that were selected because they form part of LGITO qualifications requiring review.

This, the second stage, did not deal with building-related Compliance and Regulatory Control unit standards 7226-7237, as these were reviewed separately as part of a project conducted by Infratrain New Zealand, or with unit standards 19420-19422 which had their period of registration extended in February 2006.

The 36 unit standards listed above were due for review.  Feedback sought from users and other stakeholders clearly indicated that, apart from the eight unit standards that are being allowed to expire, there were no problems with them and they required no changes to level, credit, and basic content.  They agreed that the unit standards ought to undergo technical revision to ensure they met current NZQA criteria for registration, and to have minor content changes made to ensure they better reflected current terminology and good practice.

The unit standards were reviewed on that basis, changes were made where required, and the drafts were circulated to, and endorsed by, users and other stakeholders.

Main changes resulting from the review

·        Eight unit standards are being allowed to expire. Refer to the table at the end of this report.

·        18 unit standards have had their titles changed to reflect more accurately their overall outcome and to ensure consistency with the domain Compliance and Regulatory Control. Refer to the table at the end of this report for changes.

·        Purpose statements have been updated in terms of style and to reflect the elements.

·        Special notes have been updated in terms of consistency of style across the batch and, where required, to improve their clarity and currency.

·        Special notes have been modified, inserted, or removed, as required, in terms of consistency of style across the batch and/or to promote clarity.

·        Elements, performance criteria, and their ranges have been amended, where required, to improve clarity and consistency within the unit standard and in terms of consistency of style across the batch. In some cases changes were required to ensure outcomes could be attributed fairly to the candidate, rather than depending on factors beyond the candidate's control.  In addition content was modified to reflect current terminology and good practice.

Unit standards categorised as category D expire at the end of December 2009.
