The National Qualifications Services (NQS) of the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Summary of review and consultation process
The reason for the review was to update the content of two unit standards relating to Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) communication systems.
It was noted by providers and other stakeholders that unit standards 12827 and 12828 were used mainly by learners for music performances. Feedback to the National Moderator and to NZQA suggested that these unit standards would sit more appropriately within the Music Technology domain than in the Performing Arts Technology domain.
The unit standards were reviewed by the National Moderator following consultation with the advisory network of secondary and tertiary providers and endorsed by the network.
Evaluation of the proposed new unit standards identified overlap with unit standard 10877, Describe and operate MIDI. Providers reporting results for unit standard 10877 were contacted and following consultation it was agreed that it would be replaced with unit standard 23730.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Content from unit standards 12827 and 12828 has been incorporated into a new level 2 unit standard (23729), which has replaced them.
· A new level 3 unit standard (23730) has been developed which has replaced unit standard 10877.
· The new unit standards have been classified in the Music Technology domain.
Unit standards categorised as category C expire at the end of December 2008.
