The National Qualifications Services (NQS) of NZQA has completed the revision and rollover of the unit standard listed above.

Date new version published                        June 2007

Planned review date                        December 2008

Reason for the revision

Feedback from the two accredited providers for the National Diploma in Teaching (Early Childhood Education, Pasifika) (Level 7) [Ref: 0983] indicated that there were difficulties in assessing this unit standard.  It is not always possible to identify two children with special needs in a centre.  Working with children with special needs is highly specialised work which does not always fit with the skill level of undergraduate students so a request was made to revise the unit standard to enable the candidate to show they had been able to collaborate with a lead person in the early childhood education centre to develop, implement and evaluate learning programmes.

Changes were made to the unit standard on the advice of the two accredited providers and the National Moderator for early childhood education who agreed the changes to the outcomes were more appropriate for undergraduate students in early childhood education.

Main changes resulting from the revision

·        Changes were made to the title of the unit standard to focus on collaborating in development and evaluating implementation of a learning programme for special needs Pacific ECE children,

·        Changes were made to the purpose statement to reflect the changes made to elements two and three,

·        Additional performance criteria 2.6 and 3.4 were added,

·        References in special notes were updated, and 'giftedness' added as a special need.
