Revision of Mental Health qualification
National Certificate in Mental Health (Mental Health Support Work) (Level 4) [Ref: 0431]
The Community Support Services Industry Training Organisation has revised the above qualification.
Date new version published March 2007
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2010.
Reason for the revision
The Community Support Services Industry Training Organisation received feedback from accredited providers that the special note that required people wishing to enter a programme leading to award of this qualification to hold a current First Aid Certificate was causing an unnecessary barrier to enrolments. The ITO has accepted this feedback and acknowledged that the requirement that mental health support workers hold a current first aid certificate is an employer responsibility that is already covered by health and disability sector standards and service specifications.
Main changes resulting from the revision
The special note that required people wishing to enter a programme leading to award of this qualification to hold a current First Aid Certificate has been removed.
Changes to structure and content
· Removal of the special note that required people wishing to enter a programme leading to award of this qualification to hold a current First Aid Certificate
· Consequential revision of transition arrangements.
Transition
There are no transition implications for version 4. However, as there is no longer a requirement for a current First Aid Certificate people may choose to transfer from versions 3 or 4 to version 5.
All versions of the qualification will be recognised by the Community Support Services Industry Training Organisation.
The qualification contains standards that replaced earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.
