Summary of review and consultation
process
This
review was a part of a planned review cycle. Feedback was received from the secondary
sector and from the moderation and examination systems. National consultation on the achievement
standards has resulted in the following changes.
Main changes resulting from the
review
Some changes have been made to clarify
wording of some achievement standard titles and achievement criteria, however
the overall outcomes remain the same.
The term 'describe' has been added to the titles of many achievement
standards, and in some achievement criteria. This better reflects expectations at this
level for assessment. Changes and
additions have been made to the Explanatory Notes (ENs) provided in some cases,
for example to define terms.
AS90202
The title has been changed to include the
term 'describe'. Definitions have
been provided in EN 3. A particular
change that has been made is the removal of reference to settings. This has been
done to allow for greater choice as any significant extreme natural event from
around the world will meet the requirements of this achievement standard. Reference to any particular type of
extreme natural event has also been removed. This will allow for greater
flexibility.
AS90203
The title has been changed to include the
term 'describe'. EN 2 states that
the study of the population of any one country will meet the requirements of
this standard. This will reduce the
content required for assessment.
Definitions have been provided in EN 3.
AS90204
The title has been changed to include the
term 'describe'. EN 2 states that
studies of a farming type in a country, and the extraction of a mineral in a
country will meet the requirements for this standard. The countries may be the same, or they
may be different. Definitions have
been provided in EN 3.
AS90205
Some changes have been made to EN 3 to
better outline requirements for levels of achievement.
AS90206
A new EN 2 states that achievement criteria
must be met in the context of one topic, and must allow for the collection of
primary data from the field. The
achievement criteria have been slightly changed to clarify that accuracy
particularly applies to presentation. This has been defined in the renumbered
EN 3.
AS90207
The title has been changed to include the
term 'describe'. Some changes to
definitions in EN 3 have been made to clarify
requirements.
AS90208
A new EN 2 states that achievement criteria
must be met in the context of one global geographic topic. The title has been changed to include
the term 'describe'. Some changes
to definitions in the renumbered EN 3 have been made to clarify
requirements.
