The Ministry of Education and the Secondary Assessment and Liaison business unit of NZQA have completed a review of the achievement standards listed above.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

This review was part of a planned review cycle.  Feedback was received from the secondary sector and from the moderation and examination systems.  National consultation on the achievement standards has resulted in the following changes.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

AS90018

Changes have been made to clarify wording of the title, achievement criteria and explanatory notes, though the overall outcomes and intent remain the same. 

·         Title: The words art and artworks have been replaced by art works to clarify the intent of the achievement standard.  The term traditions has been replaced by established practice to align terminology with other achievement standards at this and other levels and research has been replaced by investigation to align with the curriculum.

·         Achievement criteria: Research relevant information, has been changed to Investigate information relevant to selected art works to clarify intent of the achievement standard.  To reflect changes made to the title research and art and artworks have been replaced.

·         Explanatory notes: Changes have been made for consistency with the new title and other achievement standards and levels.  New explanatory notes have been added to clarify intent, define terms and clarify ways that evidence can be presented.  Explanatory Notes 7, 8, and 9 have been added to further clarify grades of achievement and to be consistent with other achievement standards.

 

AS90019

·         Achievement criteria: Sufficient has been deleted from the criteria as it is unnecessary, sufficiency is implicit in the requirement for appropriate information to be demonstrated for achievement.

·         Explanatory notes have been added or modified to clarify intent and define terms.  Explanatory Note 2 was removed as it is implied in Explanatory Note 4.

 

AS90020

·         Title: artworks has been changed to art works for consistency with other visual art and art history achievement standards.

·         Achievement criteria: Minor wording changes have been made to clarify intent.  For achievement, and appropriate has been added to the first criterion to clarify intent and to align with Level 6 of the curriculum.  For achievement with excellence, resolving has been replaced with clarifying, and for all grades artists work has been replaced with established practice for consistency with other visual arts achievement standards.

·         Explanatory notes: In Explanatory Note 4 may has been replaced with must to clarify requirements of the achievement standard with respect to media.  Explanatory Note 5 has been added to make the requirement of a range of media more explicit.  Explanatory Note 6 relating to established practice has been added for consistency with other achievement standards.

 

AS90021

·         Achievement criteria: A minor change has been made to improve consistency with other achievement standards and levels.  A study of artists' work has been replaced with established practice.

·         Explanatory notes: Explanatory Notes 2 and 3 have been re-formatted and simplified to clarify that work produced for this achievement standard may be undertaken at any stage during a year's programme.  Explanatory Note 6 relating to established practice has been added for consistency with other achievement standards.
