Summary of review and consultation
process
This
review was a part of a planned review cycle. Feedback was received from the secondary
sector and from the moderation and examination systems. National consultation on the achievement
standards has resulted in the following changes.
Main changes resulting from the
review
Minor changes have been made to clarify
wording of some titles and achievement criteria, however the overall outcomes
remain the same. Changes and
additions have been made to the explanatory notes (ENs) provided to define
terms. For example, the EN
referring to a social studies concept has been supplemented to include reference
to conceptual understandings. Quantitative references in the
achievement standards have generally been removed to allow for a focus on
qualitative evidence.
AS90215
The introductory statement has been modified
to refer more directly to the achievement criterion for Achievement. Perspectives are outlined in EN 11. The term 'social' has been removed from
EN 4 as the entire achievement standard focuses on this.
AS90216
The introductory statement has been modified
to refer more directly to the achievement criterion for
achievement.
AS90217
A number of changes have been made to this
achievement standard in order to provide more focus and to reduce student
workload. The title has been
changed to include 'to communicate conceptual understandings about society'.
This better reflects the intent of
the achievement standard and the new achievement criteria. There are now only two achievement
criteria for each level of achievement. EN 4 outlines the steps now required in
an appropriate framework.
AS90218
The title has been changed to
better reflect the achievement criteria, as has the introductory statement.
The second achievement criterion
for achievement now requires the students to 'identify'. This is defined in EN 7. The term 'range' has been removed from
the second achievement criterion for achievement with merit. EN 8 now outlines a qualitative
expectation for 'describe'.
AS90219
The introductory statement has been slightly
changed to better reflect the achievement criteria for achievement. Additional ENs have been added to provide
definitions of terms.
