Summary of review and consultation process

 

Competenz convened meetings with industry representatives and other key stakeholders from the end of 2006 through to the middle of 2007 to deliberate the review of Food and Related Product Processing unit standards.  A large number of unit standards that had had no usage since their registration were designated category D in this review.  Industry had indicated no intention to use these unit standards now or in the future.

 

Due to the number of unit standards under review it has taken considerable time to consider the following:

·         The currency of the unit standards and their suitability for existing and proposed qualifications.

·         Usage patterns.

·         The accuracy and appropriateness of their content.

·         Levels and credits commensurate with performance outcomes.

·         Any gaps in skills and/or knowledge that could be captured by the development of standards - none were required.  However, a number of unit standards had recommended unit standards added to their entry information at the request of industry.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·         Purpose statements amended to accommodate changes to the elements.

·         Improved special notes to better convey assessment parameters, including improved definitions and updated references to legislation.

·         Recommended unit standards have been added to the entry information of the following: 7710, 7745, 7749, 7753, and 7814.

·         Designated unit standards 7683-7689, 7694, 7712, 7741-7742, 7785, 7812-7813, 7815-7817, and 7849-7854 as expiring.

 

Unit standards categorised as category D expire at the end of December 2009.
