Date new versions published                                                          September 2007

Planned review date                                                                           December 2012

Summary of review and consultation process

This unit standard was reviewed as part of the scheduled review process for unit standards in the Carpentry and Carpentry Theory domains, and the National Certificate in Carpentry (Level 4) [Ref: 0016].  Feedback was sought from industry representative groups in a series of forums, comprised of industry focus groups, BCITO internal working parties, and the Carpentry National Advisory Group.  The feedback was collated and drafts of the new unit standards were sent out to these groups for further discussion and endorsement.  Final signoff on changes was made by the Carpentry National Advisory Group in June 2007.

As a result of this process, it was identified that unit standard 13036, Carry out safe working practices on construction sites, had too many credits for its content, and it was recommended that the credit value be lowered from 5 credits to 4 credits.

Unit standard 13036 is contained within a number of BCITO and non-BCITO qualifications, necessitating revision of these qualifications.  Some of the qualifications involved are currently with NZQA pending registration.  Because of the impact on these and other qualifications, it was considered prudent to submit this unit standard individually, ahead of the other reviewed Carpentry and Carpentry Theory unit standards, in order to avoid a second revision of these qualifications almost straight after review.  Other affected qualifications will be revised in 2007.

Main changes resulting from the review

·         Credit value was lowered from 5 credits to 4 credits.
