The New Zealand Painting Contractors Association of Employers has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          September 2007

Planned review date                                                                           December 2012

Summary of review and consultation process

The brick and block laying unit standards reached their planned review date in 2001 and needed to be examined by industry to determine whether they were still fit for purpose and met the requirements of the new level descriptors.

An Industry Advisory Group examined the content of the unit standards and agreed that six of the current unit standards were no longer fit for purpose and would be designated as expiring, and that a number of the unit standards appeared to be at variance with the level descriptors in terms of their allocated levels.  Consistency and content were also examined and brought up to date, and gaps in the skills required identified for the development of three new unit standards.

Main changes resulting from the review

·           Unit standards 6082, 6084, 6086, 6091,12888, and 12892 have been designated as expiring.

·           Unit standards 6090 and 12893 have had a change in title.

·           Unit standards 6080, 6081, 6085, 6089, 6090, and 12894 have increased from Level 3 to Level 4.

·           Unit standard 12890 has decreased from Level 3 to Level 2.

·           Credit values have been amended to reflect the notional learning time it is expected to take candidates to meet the outcome and performance requirements.

·           Special notes have been updated.

·           Elements and performance criteria have been updated and made consistent.

·           Accreditation and moderation statements have been updated.

·           Three new unit standards have been developed.

Unit standards categorised as category D expire at the end of December 2008.
