Planned review date                                                                           December 2013

Summary of review and consultation process

These unit standards were reviewed as part of a scheduled periodic review of unit standards and qualifications and also because of the practical need to ensure that unit standards still meet the needs of the industry.  The review confirmed the relevance of each unit standard and confirmed the level and credits assigned.

As a result of sector group meetings minor changes were recommended to reflect changes in industry.  Because of a change in a process machine the titles of two units were changed.  The only other significant change being the addition of a Health and Safety element to all practical unit standards.

Main changes resulting from the review

·      The need to comply with the Health and Safety Act 1992 was added to the special notes in all practical units.

·      An extra element covering Health and Safety was added to all Level 2 and Level 3 unit standards.

·      Changes were made to range statements to clarify assessment parameters.

·      The purpose statements were modified so that they were in a consistent format.

·      A special note was added to all practical units defining Workplace Procedures.

·      A special note was added to all of the theoretical units to provide guidance on the availability of support information.

·      The process of Chemset had been discontinued by industry and Twistset had taken its place therefore the title of unit standards 4175 and 4176 were changed from Chemset to Twistset.

·      The word 'tune' was removed from unit 4196 to make it consistent with other standards where tuning was included in a performance criterion but was not a material enough item to be included in the title.
