Date new versions published                                                          April 2008

Planned review date                                                                           December 2013

Summary of review and consultation process

A review of the equine unit standards listed above was required to determine whether the standards remained fit for purpose.  The NZ Equine Industry Training Organisation consulted stakeholders, namely industry, sector and moderation groups, and accredited providers, seeking feedback on the effectiveness of unit standards common to all sectors.  An Editorial Committee comprising representatives from harness racing, thoroughbred trainers, breeding sector, equestrian sector, industry tutors, and accredited providers met on 20th June 2007 to consider all submissions.

The review was carried out to ensure that the standards were consistent with industry practices and to draw upon the practical experience gained from assessing and training trainees against the unit standards.  The review was also aimed at improving the clarity of the unit standards and removing inconsistencies.

Main changes resulting from the review

·         Changes made to ranges to clarify the parameters for assessment and to reflect individual sector practices.

·         'Stable procedures' replaced 'in-house procedures' for consistency across standards.

·         Order of elements and performance criteria altered in some unit standards to reflect hierarchy and/or sequence of learning.

·         Elements added in some unit standards to better reflect requirements of unit standards.

·         Performance criteria altered to better meet element requirements.

·         Titles of unit standards 1650, 1651, 1654, and 6612 amended to better reflect standards content or to improve punctuation.

·         Level of unit standard 6620 increased to better reflect the outcome.

·         Credits of unit standards 1654 and 19460 increased to better reflect learning time.

·         Special notes updated.

·         Some entry requirements amended to provide greater flexibility in planning learning.
