National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Operator) (Level 3) [Ref: 1375]
Date new versions published April 2008
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2012.
Summary of review and consultation process
The review was carried out because feedback had indicated that a change in content and structure was required to meet current industry requirements.
The consultation process included industry representation from both the hydro and the network operations sectors. Concerns were raised that the National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Operator) (Level 3) with strands in Hydro Operations, and Network Operations [Ref: 0889] consisted of standards that in the main were not relevant to hydro and network operations, and hence not achievable by people taking the qualification. The steering group expressed a desire to have a qualification based on training modules appropriate to both hydro and network operators and a replacement qualification was drafted consisting of standards based on these modules. The replacement qualification contained standards applicable to all areas of operations and stranding was not required.
The steering group considered that the National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Network Operator) (Level 4) [Ref: 0892] was largely fit for purpose and required very little revision. Changes consisted of the transfer of standards to the new National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Operator) (Level 3) [Ref: 1375].
Main changes resulting from the review
The National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Operator) (Level 3) with strands in Hydro Operations, and Network Operations [Ref: 0889] was replaced by a new qualification which was relevant to both hydro and network operations and has no strands.
The National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Network Operator) (Level 4) [Ref: 0892] was reviewed, but no significant changes were made to the structure of the qualification, other than the transfer of standards to the new National Certificate in Electricity Supply (Operator) (Level 3) [Ref: 1375].
