The Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) have completed the review of the unit standard listed above.
Date new versions published August 2008
Planned review date December 2011
Summary of review and consultation process
This unit standard has been reviewed and reclassified because of a major change in the way that forest produce is inspected and certified for export. Previously, forest products were inspected under the Forest Product Export Quality Assurance Scheme and verified by a contracted company before going on board the carrier vessel. This change means that what was a preliminary inspection at the processing site, followed by verification that the produce met the requirements of the importing country by the verifying authority; certification is now completed by the processing organisation, and the Independent Verification Agency audits the systems and procedures of the processing organisation.
Main changes resulting from the review
Changes include:
· The reviewed unit standard has been reclassified as shown in the table below.
· Inclusion of the purpose and intent of phytosanitary requirements.
· Inclusion of recognition of the common wood and bark boring insects.
· Inclusion of the effect of fungal attack on freshly cut logs and sawn timber.
· An increase in the credit value from 6 to 8 credits.
