The Hairdressing Industry Training Organisation (HITO) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Summary of review and consultation process

Over the last 12 months HITO's Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) has undertaken the planned review of these unit standards. The QAC is made up of representatives from industry, providers, employers and employees, and considers feedback from all areas of the sector as well as from the National Moderator.

Through the QAC, stakeholders were given the opportunity to contribute to the review of the unit standards at different stages throughout the process.

The review process considered the following:

· the currency of the unit standards and their suitability for existing and future qualifications

· the accuracy and appropriateness of their content

· whether levels and credits were commensurate with performance outcomes and the time taken to learn and demonstrate the skills

· the assessability of the unit standards.

Main changes resulting from the review

· Changes have been made to special notes, range statements, and definitions in some unit standards to ensure they are up to date, and that they reflect the requirements of industry.

· Elements and performance criteria have been amended to reflect the specific skills required, to improve clarity, and for consistency of style throughout the application.

· Titles have been changed for many of the unit standards.

· Credits have been increased for unit standards 2756, 2867, 2881, 2891 and 12313, and decreased for 2868.

· Level have been increased for unit standards 2758, 2866, 2867, 2870, 2871 and 2876.

· Unit standard 2872 has been replaced by unit standards 25076-25078.

· Unit standard 17469 has been designated expiring and will not be replaced.

Unit standards categorised as category C or D expire at the end of December 2010.
