Summary of review and consultation process
These standards were due for review in 2008. Advisory groups for the abalone (pāua) industry and finfish industry were set up to review the standards. Review meetings were held in June and July to ensure the standards still met the requirements of the respective industries, and to ensure they were clear, logical and fit for purpose. The re-drafted standards were presented to the advisory groups for consultation and the final versions were endorsed.
Main changes resulting from the review
· The title of standards 17253 and 17254 were amended to take macrons for pāua into account.
· Elements, performance criteria and range statements were amended to meet industry requirements and to improve assessability and consistency.
