The Seafood Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.
Date new versions published December 2008
Planned review date December 2013
Summary of review and consultation process
A working party met in April 2008 to review these standards as the majority of unit standards had exceeded their planned review date. These unit standards were presented to the relevant industry sector for consultation and review and the final versions were endorsed. They continue to meet industry requirements and demand.
Main changes resulting from the review
· A new element was added to unit standard 16674 to include knowledge of how the ecological impacts of human activities on land and in the aquatic environment could impact on aquaculture.
· Unit standard 19219 was changed because the industry wanted to ensure that the outcomes of the elements were clear and logical. The title was amended from 'describe' to 'explain' to meet the needs of the industry. Element 1 had referred to spawning methods and now refers to the conditioning and the management of brood stock. Element 2 now refers to the 'spawning' methods. The 'conditioning and management' of brood stock is the process which happens before spawning methods.
· The title of unit standard 19220 was amended.
· The purpose statements, elements, and performance criteria were updated for consistency with the outcome of the unit standards.
· Special notes were updated for accuracy and consistency.
Impact on existing provider accreditations
