Summary of review and consultation process
The Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) Operational Committee was established in May and met twice to review the unit standards above along with the National Certificate in Civil Construction Works (Horizontal Directional Drilling) with strands in Driller and Tracker [Ref: 1081] and National Certificate in Civil Construction Works (Horizontal Directional Drilling Site Controller) [Ref: 1082].
Drafts of the proposed unit standards (and proposed replacement qualification) were circulated for comment to the HDD Operational Committee and to other companies delivering HDD services.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Unit standard 20479 was designated as expiring.
· Four unit standards increased in level.
· Four unit standards increased in credits.
· Three unit standards changed titles.
· Special notes were updated.
· Elements and performance criteria were amended to reflect current good practice.
· A new strike avoidance unit standard was developed and is listed in the table at the end of this report.
The unit standard categorised as category D will expire at the end of December 2011.
