Date new versions published December 2008
Planned Review Date December 2013
Summary of review and consultation process
The review process for the standards in the Whakairo Subfield began late in 2005. A working panel consisting of representatives from accredited organisations including Private Training Establishments (PTE), Wānanga, Secondary Education and Whakaruruhau met to review the standards. The Whakairo unit standards were also reviewed by the Whakaruruhau at a hui in August 2008, as a continuing part of the MQS review cycle. The unit standards have been used by a number of providers in the tertiary sector.
Standards in the domain Te Ara Tauira Whakairo were not included in this review as they are under further development.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Range statements in some unit standards were amended to make the assessment load less onerous and increase flexibility of assessment and delivery.
· A special note was included in all the standards in the domain Mana Whakairo to clarify the connection of tikanga concepts and practices with whakairo.
· A special note regarding assessment by a fluent speaker of te reo, was added to some unit standards in the domain Mana Whakairo.
· Amendments were made to purpose statements to reflect elements.
· Some titles were changed to better reflect content and/or take account of changes to performance criteria and elements.
· Throughout the unit standards tikanga/kawa now reads tikanga and kawa.
· Throughout the unit standards hapū and/or iwi now reads hapū or iwi.
· Unit standards 2570 and 2577 were designated expiring.
· Macrons were added to unit standards.
