The ElectroTechnology Industry Training Organisation (ETITO) has completed the review, revision and rollover of the unit standards listed above.  The reviewed unit standards are listed in bold.

Date new versions published                                                          February 2008

Planned review date                                                                           December 2012

Reason for the revision

ETITO in conjunction with the Telecommunications Education & Skills Standards Organisation (TESSO) and the telecommunications industry reviewed and revised the unit standards listed above.  The review and revision was conducted in conjunction with the development of two new standards for inclusion in a new strand, Information and Communication Technology, for the National Certificate in Telecommunications (Level 4) with strands in Bearer and Switch, Building and Data Cabling, Customer Access Network, Customer Premises Equipment, and Radio [Ref: 1002].

The consultation groups were asked to consider the following:

·          the currency of the unit standards and their suitability for existing and future qualifications

·          the appropriateness of unit standards to their domain

·          the accuracy and appropriateness of their content

·          whether levels and credits were commensurate with performance outcomes and training needs

·          any gaps in skills and/or knowledge that could be captured by the development of new unit standards

·          the assessability of the unit standards.

The unit standards in the Telecommunications subfield still meet industry requirements.  References were updated, typographical errors were corrected, and some formatting changes, including the purpose statements, were made for clarity and consistency.

Three unit standards in the Electrical Engineering subfield that are no longer used were designated expiring (review category D).

Main changes resulting from the review

·          Minor edits were made to unit standards in the Telecommunication subfield for clarity and consistency, references were updated, and typographical errors were corrected.

·          Two new unit standards were developed and registered in the Telecommunications - Service Delivery domain.

·          Unit standards 16964, 16965, and 16972 were designated expiring.

Unit standards categorised as category D expire at the end of December 2010.

Impact on existing provider accreditations

None.

Impact on Accreditation and Moderation Action Plan (AMAP)

AMAP 0003 has been updated to reflect the changes.

Impact on existing qualifications

Changes made as a result of the review and reclassification impact on existing qualifications.

Affected
