The NZ Equine Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the standards listed above.
Date new versions published July 2008
Planned review date December 2013
Summary of review and consultation process
A review of the equine standards listed above was required to determine whether they remained fit for purpose for a further five years. The NZ Equine Industry Training Organisation consulted stakeholders, namely industry, sector and moderation groups, and accredited providers, seeking feedback on the effectiveness of standards common to all sectors. An Editorial Committee comprising representatives from harness racing, thoroughbred trainers, breeding sector, equestrian sector, industry tutors, and accredited providers met in June 2007 to consider all submissions.
The review was carried out to ensure that the standards were consistent with industry practices and to draw upon the practical experience gained from assessing and training trainees against the standards. The review was also aimed at improving the clarity of the standards and removing inconsistencies.
No feedback was provided throughout the review process on the standards contained within this review, besides feedback on 14594. Therefore, it was determined that all stakeholders were satisfied that these standards continue to meet industry, assessment and training needs. However, the Editorial Committee updated the special notes to include stable procedures in place of in-house procedures to maintain consistency across all standards; the New Zealand Equestrian Federation to the Association's new name of Equestrian Sports New Zealand; and addresses, websites, and publication details where necessary.
Main changes resulting from the review
· Titles of unit standards amended to better reflect standards' content or to improve punctuation.
· Elements modified to ensure clarity of outcomes.
· Performance criteria altered to better meet element requirements and clarify evidence requirements. One performance criterion removed from standard 14594 to clarify the requirements of the standard.
· Changes made to ranges to clarify the parameters for assessment.
· Special notes updated.
· Terminology standardised for consistency across standards.
· New Zealand Equestrian Federation and their address and contact details updated to Equestrian Sports New Zealand.
