Summary of review and consultation process

A review of the equine unit standards listed above was required to determine whether the standards remained fit for purpose for a further five years.  The NZ Equine Industry Training Organisation consulted stakeholders, namely sector, moderation groups, and accredited providers, seeking feedback on the effectiveness of the standards.

A group of 28 equine tutors met at the national equine tutor's moderation meeting held in Palmerston North in November 2006, as a precursor to the review of Equine standards scheduled for 2007.  The group of equine providers and tutors reviewed the standards to ensure the content was consistent with industry practices and to draw upon the practical experience gained from assessing and training trainees against the standards.  The review was also aimed at improving the clarity of the standards, removing inconsistencies, and ensuring content was relevant, continued to keep abreast of current industry practice, and was fair and equitable for trainees.  The resultant feedback was minuted and forwarded to the NZ Equine Industry Training Organisation.

No feedback was obtained throughout the review process on the standards contained within this review.  Therefore it was determined that all stakeholders were satisfied that these standards continue to meet industry, assessment, and training needs.  However, the Editorial Committee updated addresses, websites, and publication details where necessary and references to the New Zealand Equestrian Federation to the Association's new name of Equestrian Sports New Zealand, and removed the specific year from dressage tests to ensure the standards remain up-to-date between review processes.  These last two aspects have impacted on the titles of the following standards 6589, 6597, 6598, 6604, 6605, and 6606.

Main changes resulting from the review

·      Dressage test years removed.

·      Performance criteria altered to better meet element requirements and clarify evidence requirements.

·      Changes made to ranges to clarify the parameters for assessment.
