Review of Forestry unit standards

This review report was first published in May 2008 and republished in July 2008, following a request to correct some errors in the Impact on Existing Provider Accreditations table.  Organisations have now been granted the correct extensions of accreditation.

NB Organisations that were granted accreditation for unit standard 6930 in error will have the standard removed from their accreditation scope.

Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new version of report published                                            July 2008

Date new versions published                                                          May 2008

Planned review date                                                                           December 2013

Summary of review and consultation process

FITEC has been involved in the review of qualification structures for the forestry industry.  As part of the process industry advisory groups have been convened and have reviewed the above unit standards to ensure that they are fit for the proposed new qualification structures.

Various industry advisory groups within the forestry sector contributed to the review.  Reviewed and new unit standards were then circulated to the wider industry for feedback.  All feedback was considered and, where appropriate, incorporated into the review.  All the advisory groups then endorsed the changes.

The main changes resulting from the review are:

·         78 unit standards had changes to address issues of currency and accuracy and to ensure they are assigned to the correct classification or are reclassified as appropriate.  53 unit standards were reclassified.

·         Unit standards 1236, 6950, and 19766 increased in level.

·         Unit standards 1234, 1237, 1243, 1245, 1247, 6924, 6927, 6928, 6930, 6934-6936, 6939, and 6946 were decreased in level.

·         Unit standards 1221, 1234, 1238, 1243, 1245, 1247, 1254, 1266, 6921, 6932, 6943, 6947, 6948, 6957, 6958, 6972, 6973, 17763-17766, 17769, and 17772 had an increase in credits.

·         Unit standards 1256, 6927, 6939, 6944, 6946, 16842, 17773, and 23411 had a decrease in credits.

·         20 unit standards were designated as expiring because they were no longer necessary and/or their outcomes were covered by other unit standards.

·         Ten unit standards in total were replaced by nine unit standards in total.

·         22 new unit standards were created to address areas of knowledge and skills not previously covered.

Unit standards categorised as category C or D expire at the end of December 2011
