Review of Urban Pest Management qualification

National Certificate in Urban Pest Management with optional strand in Fumigation, Vertebrate Pests, Wood Borer, Shooting, Bird Control, and Textile Pests [Ref: 0256]

The Building Service Contractors of New Zealand Incorporated has completed the review of the qualification listed above.

Date new version published                                                             July 2008

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2013.

Summary of review and consultation process

The review process was undertaken to take account of the review of core generic standards 497, 1297 and 1307.  The review resulted in the SSB deciding to add two new optional standalone strands as part of the continuing development of the qualification.

Within the pest management industry there are numbers of pest control technicians that specialise in various parts of the industry.  Including the new strands for bedbug and ant control as part of the qualification, allows pest technicians to have their specialist skills and knowledge formally recognised.
