Summary of review and consultation process

NZHITO, in conjunction with providers and other stakeholders have reviewed the Amenity Horticulture domain unit standards listed above.  The review considered the following matters.

1               The currency of the unit standards and their suitability for existing and proposed qualifications.

2               The accuracy of the standards and the appropriateness of their content to the amenity horticulture industry.

3               The need to revise special notes, elements, performance criteria and range statements to ensure that they were technically correct, up to date and accurately reflected industry practices.

4               The need to reassess credit values to more accurately reflect the time taken for learning and assessment.

The review of these unit standards has also been coordinated with the development of two new unit standards for the amenity horticulture sector.

Main changes resulting from the review

The Review process has resulted in the following changes to the unit standards.

·         The development of new Amenity Horticulture unit standards, as listed at the end of this report.

·         The development of a new turf unit standard for Amenity Horticulture, to cover similar outcomes to those previously covered by the expired Unit 1673, Sow, lay, and maintain amenity turf.  This unit standard has been redeveloped due to high levels of demand from the amenity horticulture industry for a basic turf unit standard for Amenity Horticulturists who are not intending on specialising in the turf area. The Sports Turf ITO supports the development of the new turf unit standard in Amenity Horticulture.

·         Five existing unit standards have, based upon their usage and industry requirements, had increases in credit and changes to special notes, elements, and performance criteria, and four existing unit standards have had changes of title.

·         Unit standard 1670 has been replaced by a new unit standard 24648.

Unit standard categorised as category C expires at the end of December 2010.
