Summary of review and consultation process

The review was necessary because of the earlier review of unit standards in the Community and Workplace Fire and Emergency Management subfield.  This also allowed for a review of the content of the qualification in meeting the diverse needs of workplaces and communities in responding to emergencies.

An advisory group consisting of representatives from across the FRISTO industry coverage was convened to review the content of the qualification.  This group also ensured further consultation throughout their respective sectors.

Main changes resulting from the review

The classification in the title has been changed from domain to subfield to reflect the range of industries and environments within which employers and candidates operate.

The focus of the qualification is to meet the fundamental needs of workplace and community prevention of emergencies and response in the event of a workplace or community emergency.  It is targeted at ensuring that personnel have a basic understanding of emergency situations when dealing with small emergencies.  The structure of the qualification includes flexibility to meet the needs of a diverse range of workplaces and reflects the nature of the workplace or community response.
