Summary of review and consultation process

These unit standards had passed their planned review date and were reviewed by the Casino Security Advisory Group.  The Casino Security Advisory Group comprised of representatives from casinos of New Zealand, Service Food Workers Union, and SEA-Unite.  The aim was to determine and discuss whether existing unit standards were still fit for purpose and to identify any gaps within them.

Drafts of unit standards were circulated to the Casino Security Advisory Group for feedback.  All feedback collected was considered and, where appropriate, incorporated into the unit standards.  Several drafts were developed in order to accommodate the needs of stakeholders.  The Casino Security Advisory Group then endorsed these unit standards.

Main changes resulting from the review

The review process has resulted in the following changes in the unit standards.

• Unit standard 12778 has had its credit value increased to more accurately reflect the time needed to learn the skills.
• Legislation has been updated as the Casino Control Act 1990 has been replaced by the Gambling Act 2003.
• The Department of Internal Affairs has proposed a standard definition which is to be used in the unit standards.  This definition covers all processes and procedures that an enterprise uses, be they contained within regulations or documentation written by that enterprise and/or for that enterprise only.
• Amendments have been made to titles, special notes, elements, performance criteria, and range statements.
