Date new version published                                                             May 2008

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2013.

Summary of review and consultation process

This review took place in response to feedback from AsureQuality, a state owned enterprise responsible for providing warranted animal product examiners to export meat processing facilities.  This feedback indicated that the current structure of the qualification no longer met the needs in today's meat processing environment.  The qualification also needed updating in view of the recent unit standard review.

Main changes resulting from the review

This review resulted in major structural change.  The core elective section was removed and the strands were broadened to provide greater flexibility to those plants that process species other than sheep, lambs, goats, and cattle.  The feral species strands were removed and the feral standards incorporated into a single standard.  Optional strands for feral animals were replaced by one optional Other Species strand, and the optional Advanced Meat Inspection Services was renamed Pre-slaughter Examination Services strand.

Standards that were no longer considered relevant to the outcome of this qualification were removed and new standards that recognised workplace knowledge and skills were added.
