Support of the Older Person

5014-5017, 5020, 16699, 16700

The Community Support Services Industry Training Organisation (CSSITO) has completed the review and rollover of the standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                 May 2008

Planned review date                                                                  December 2013

Summary of review and consultation process

The CSSITO consulted widely on the review of these standards.  Sector feedback indicated a needed a more flexible and mobile workforce and the standards needed coherence across the sectors.  As a result it was decided to undertake a broad review of all of the ITO's standards and qualifications.  The intent of the review was to make standards more relevant to the current needs of the industry and compliant with safety standards and current best practice.

The review process began in mid 2004.  Experts were sought and found to sit on review panels or Standard Setting Teams (SSTs).  The following SSTs were established:

·         Community Care SST

·         Diversional Therapy SST

·         Hearing Therapy SST

·         Human Services SST

·         Support of the Older Person SST.

New standards have replaced standards that no longer had the focus or emphasis required by industry, and further new standards have been developed to meet identified needs.

Main changes resulting from the review

·           The titles of many standards have been simplified or clarified.

·           Legislation  and references been updated as required.

·           Definitions have been amended to be consistent with other reviewed CSSITO standards.

·           Terminology has been updated to be consistent with other reviewed CSSITO standards.

·           Elements, performance criteria, and ranges have been changed as required to ensure the standards are applicable in a wider range of situations, are assessable, and are consistent with other CSSITO standards.

·           The level of Standard 1820 has decreased and the level of standard 18604 has decreased.

·           Credits for standards 18599, 18600, 18603, 18606, 18609, and 18612 have increased.

·           Credits for standards 18604, 18608, and 19308 have decreased.

·           Standards 1819 and 16869 have been replaced by standard 23667.

·           Standard 1825 has been replaced by standard 23370.

·           Standard 18598 has been replaced by standard 23363.

·           Standards 1808, 1809, 1812-1815, 1817, 1821, 1822, 1826, 1829, 1830, 1834, 1835, 1837, 1839-1841, 1844-1847, 5014-5017, 5020, 16873, 16962, and 16963 have been have been designated as expiring because they are no longer required by the industry.

·           12 new standards have been developed.
