The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2013.
Summary of review and consultation process
The review of the Iwi/Māori Social Services qualifications was part of the planned review cycle. It took into account the need to improve the qualifications to better reflect the needs of providers of Iwi/Māori social services, and to ensure that the appropriate mix of knowledge, skills and values are included.
The feedback from providers and employers clearly identified the need to improve the qualifications. In particular, feedback has resulted in significant changes to the te reo Māori components of both qualifications, because the original requirements had become a barrier to completion for a significant number of candidates.
Te Kaiāwhina Ahumahi began the review process in 2004, and this has involved:
· focus groups of stakeholders, including education and training providers and employers
· a review of the outcomes of all moderation activities since the qualifications were registered, and consultation with Te Kaiaromatawai o Te Motu (National Moderator for the Social Services standards incorporated in these qualifications)
· discussions with some stakeholders since the qualifications were first registered
· consultation with industry experts.
Main changes resulting from the review
The review process has resulted in the following changes to the qualifications:
· Amended titles, levels, and credits for some standards arising from a review of standards in the domain Iwi/Māori Social Services.
· Addition and removal of standards in each qualification.
