Planned review date                                                                           December 2013

Summary of review and consultation process

All standards in the Rail Infrastructure domain were reviewed in preparation for a review of the National Certificate in Rail Transport (Level 2) [Ref: 0958], and the National Certificate in Rail Infrastructure (Level 3) [Ref: 1112] during 2008 and 2009.

The review of standards included obtaining feedback from all the stakeholders through a questionnaire, and reviewing the feedback and comments recorded in the Competenz database since the standards were registered.  The review was undertaken by the Qualification Advisory Group which is comprised of experts in the rail industry.  The changes made to the standards were endorsed by the Qualification Advisory Group at a meeting held in October 2007 and by email correspondence.

Main changes resulting from the review

·         Levels and/or credits of standards 19780, 19784, 19872, 19914, 21402, 21403, and 21407 have been amended to align better with the content of the standards.

·         Special notes have been edited and modified, where required, to ensure consistency, to better convey assessment parameters, and to update references to legislation.

·         Range statements have been updated.

·         Performance criteria of unit standards 19921 and 21400 have been changed to match the intent of the standards, and in some standards performance criteria have been reworded.

·         Entry information has been revised to reflect the current standards, and prerequisite standards have been added to some standards.

·         Titles have been amended to better convey the overall outcome of standards.

·         As a result of the review, a new standard 25041 has been developed incorporating demonstration of the knowledge components in standards 19918, 19919, and 19922.

The unit standard categorised as category D will expire at the end of December 2009.
