Summary of review and consultation process
Feedback from assessors and candidates indicated that the standards relating to infrastructure pipelaying contained elements and range statements that were barriers to achievement.
InfraTrain facilitated a review group incorporating industry representatives, training advisors, and assessors that met to amend the standards to clarify assessment requirements and remove unnecessary content. At the same time references were updated and content was clarified by adding definitions and amending wording and titles as necessary. InfraTrain consulted with the Agriculture ITO, and the Plumbing, Gasfitting, and Drainlaying ITO during the review, and a representative of NZ Extractive Industries Training Organisation joined the review group to ensure compatibility of standards used in the proposed gas industry pipelaying qualifications. Changes to standard 23287 necessitated a replacement standard.
Draft versions of the reviewed unit standards were developed and sent out to advisory group members and industry representatives for feedback. All feedback was considered, and where appropriate, incorporated into the unit standards. The infrastructure pipelaying operations committee endorsed the standards.
Main changes resulting from the review
· titles, levels, and credits amended to accurately reflect content
· references updated and definitions added where required
· range statements amended to clarify assessment requirements
· redundant elements and range statements removed
· unit standard 23287 designated expiring as it was not meeting industry needs and replaced by new unit standard 25445.
Unit standard 23287, categorised as category C, expires at the end of December 2012.
