The NZ Extractive Industries Training Organisation has completed the review of the unit standard listed above.
Summary of review and consultation process
During the development of unit standards and qualifications for the Solid Waste subfield unit standard 11432 in the Civil Engineering - Waste Management domain was identified as containing overlapping knowledge and skills. Discussions between InfraTrain New Zealand (InfraTrain) and the Extractive Industries Training Organisation (EXITO) determined that the unit standard falls within the gazetted coverage of EXITO. Standard setting responsibility was transferred to EXITO and a review was completed through their Resource Recovery Sector Advisory Group.
A copy of the unit standard was distributed to industry advisors in the resource recovery and solid waste industries who considered the currency of the unit standard, the accuracy and appropriateness of the content, and its suitability for existing and proposed qualifications. They noted that the title did not accurately reflect the content, and agreed that the unit standard was no longer fit for purpose and should be designated expiring. The Resource Recovery Sector Advisory Group endorsed this decision and confirmed that the management of landfill operations was more appropriately covered in the National Certificate in Solid Waste Disposal (Landfill Management) with optional strands in Gas Extraction, Leachate Removal, and Tiphead Control [Ref: 1140]. The decision has been endorsed by InfraTrain.
