The Seafood Industry Training Organisation (Seafood ITO) has completed the review of the standards listed above.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

Seafood ITO, registered assessors and industry representatives met and reviewed these standards to ensure that they continued to meet industry requirements.  The re-drafted standards were presented to the relevant industry sector for consultation and the final drafts were endorsed.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·           All instances of the word 'turtle' were removed from standard 19847.  It was extremely rare to catch one in commercial fishing operations in New Zealand waters, and therefore did not accurately represent achievable outcomes for the seafood vessel operations industry.

·           Special notes were updated in keeping with industry requirements and to include applicable operational references.

·           Elements and performance criteria were changed to meet industry requirements, and to improve assessability and consistency.
