The New Zealand Horticulture Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Summary of review and consultation process

 

NZHITO, in conjunction with industry representatives, providers and other stakeholders have reviewed the unit standards within the Vegetable Production domain listed above. The review considered the following matters.

1   The currency of the unit standards and their suitability for existing and proposed qualifications.

2   The accuracy and appropriateness of their content to the vegetable industry.

3   The need to revise special notes, elements, performance criteria and range statements to ensure they were technically correct, up-to-date and accurately reflect industry practices.

4   The need to reassess credit values to more accurately reflect the time taken for learning and assessment.

 

The review of these unit standards has also been coordinated with the development of new unit standards for the Vegetable Production sector. The review has taken into consideration the time since these unit standards were last reviewed and the review of the National Certificate in Horticulture (Vegetable Production) (Level 4) [Ref: 0089].

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

The Review process has resulted in the following changes to the unit standards:

·      The development of two new Vegetable Production unit standards, as listed at the end of this report.

·      The four of the existing vegetable production unit standards have, based upon their usage, industry requirements, and relationship to other unit standards in subfield Horticulture had changes in credit, special notes, elements, and performance criteria. Three have had increases in credit value and one has had a decrease in credit value.

·      Four existing unit standards have had changes made to their titles.

·      Unit standard 1796 was replaced by 25158.

 

The unit standard categorised as category C will expire at the end of December 2010.
