Revision of Gas Network Construction and Gas Network Operations qualifications

National Certificate in Gas Network Construction (Pipelaying) (Level 3) [Ref: 1022]
The NZ Extractive Industries Training Organisation has revised the above qualifications.
Date new versions published September 2008
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2013.
Reason for the revision
Candidates who had completed the higher level traffic management standard 5627 as part of the Gas Distribution and GMS Certificate of Competence Framework were forced to complete two similar lower level standards in order to satisfy the requirements of the qualifications listed above.
Main changes resulting from the revision
An elective was added to each qualification that allows people who have gained credit for standard 5627 under the Gas Distribution and GMS Certificate of Competence Framework to use that standard to satisfy the traffic management component of the revised qualifications.

Changes to structure and content
· Standards 20877 and 20878 were moved from the compulsory to the new elective 2, and standard 5627 was added to elective 2.
Transition
People working towards version 5 may complete the requirements of that version or transfer to version 6. People currently working toward version 3 or 4 may either complete the requirements for that version by December 2010 or transfer to version 6. The last date for assessment of versions 3 and 4 is December 2010.
This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards – see table below.
