Review of Seafood Retailing qualification

The Seafood Industry Training Organisation (SITO) has completed the review of the qualification above.

The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2013.

 

Summary of review and consultation process

 

This qualification has been reviewed and endorsed by the Seafood Wholesale and Retailing Advisory Group to ensure it meets the current needs of industry, and to recognise the knowledge and skills required to operate in the area of seafood retailing.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

The qualification has been updated to continue to meet the needs of the industry.  As a result, the credit range table has been updated, and the minimum credits required for the elective section have been changed.

Changes to structure and content

·      The level for standard 5316 has been increased from 2 to 3, and credit values for standards 5331 and 497 have been increased from 5 to 7 and 1 to 3 credits respectively to reflect changes to these standards.

·      As a result of the changes to the credits, the minimum requirements for the elective have been decreased from 12 to 8 credits.

 

Transition

 

People currently enrolled in programmes leading to the award of version 1 of this qualification may either complete that version or transfer to version 2.  The last date for assessments to take place for version 1 of this qualification is December 2010.

 

Appeals

 

It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements.  Any person who feels they have been disadvantaged by these transition arrangements can contact the Seafood Industry Training Organisation at the address below, who will consider appeals on a case-by-case basis.

Category A

The qualification is published as a new version with the same NQF ID

Changes are made to SSB name, contact details or purpose statement

No change is made to title, rules or components of the qualification

No transition arrangements are required

Category B

The qualification is published as a new version with the same NQF ID

Changes are made to title, rules or components

The new version of the qualification recognises a similar skill set to that recognised by the previous version

The SSB is confident that people awarded the new or previous version are comparable in terms of competence

Transition arrangements are required if candidates must gain additional/different credits for the new version

Category C

A new (replacement) qualification is published with new NQF ID

Significant changes are made to the qualification in terms of components, structure, type or level

The SSB views people with the replacement qualification as being significantly different in terms of competence from those with the replaced qualification

Transition arrangements are required

Transition may be limited to phase-out dates

Category D

Qualification will expire.
