Summary of review and consultation process

 

The Marine Engineering advisory group was set up to review the standards and the Marine Engineering qualifications.  A review meeting was held in May 2008 to ensure the standards still met the requirements of the industry, and to ensure they were clear, logical, and fit for purpose.  The re-drafted standards were presented to the advisory group for consultation and the final versions were endorsed.

 

Main changes resulting from the review

 

·           Elements, performance criteria, and range statements were amended to meet industry requirements and to improve assessability and consistency.

·           Legislation special notes have been updated for accuracy.

·           Performance criteria 3.1 and 3.2 of standard 21064 were reordered for readability.

·           A new element was added to standard 21065 to ensure candidates could prepare and administer a hazard management programme for dry docking.

·           New performance criterion 4.1 was added to 21067, and new performance criterion 3.2 was added to standard 21069 to ensure completeness.

·           A range statement was added to performance criterion 4.2 (previously 4.1) to ensure sufficient breadth of candidate evidence.
