The Forest Industries Training and Education Council (FITEC) has revised the unit standard listed above.

Reason for the revision

 

Feedback from assessors and industry indicated that often the poleman role on a cable harvesting landing was carried out by new entrant employees who may or may not have experience using a chainsaw.  As a result references to 'chainsaws' were reconsidered.

 

Main changes resulting from the revision

 

·         The prerequisite unit standard 23411, Demonstrate basic chainsaw operation in a commercial forestry situation, listed in entry information, has been changed to 'recommended' as demonstrating basic chainsaw operation was not critical to the health and safety of the poleman.

·         Performance criterion 4.3, which required trainees to maintain their chainsaw, has been removed.

·         Other references to 'chainsaws' have been removed from the performance criteria of element 4.
