The Apparel and Textiles Industry Training Organisation has completed the review of the unit standards listed above.

Date new versions published                                                          April 2009

Planned review date                                                                           December 2013

Summary of review and consultation process

The review was carried out as part of the ITO's planned review programme.

Meetings involving ATITO and representatives of the Textiles Manufacturing sector who are involved in Dyeing and Finishing were held to undertake a review of the unit standards and qualifications in the Textile Dyeing and Finishing domain.

The groups were asked to consider the following:

·      Feedback which had been received from moderation and training advisor feedback.

·      The appropriateness of the qualifications and unit standards for the dyeing industry now and in the future.

·      The currency of the unit standards and their suitability for existing and future qualifications.

·      The appropriateness of unit standards to their domain.

·      The accuracy and appropriateness of their content.

·      Whether levels and credits were commensurate with performance outcomes and training needs.

·      Any gaps in skills and/or knowledge that could be captured by the development of new unit standards or by the expansion of existing standards.

Main changes resulting from the review

·      The content of standard 5471 was already covered by standard 19841 so it was decided to designate 5471 as expiring.

·      It was decided that the credit value of standard 5375 was too low and that it be increased to 16 credits to better reflect the workload involved.

·      Standard 5385 was modified to include the issue of metamerism.

·      Changes were made to special notes to include definitions, remove obsolete references, and include a consistent statement on Health and Safety.

·      A special note was added to the relevant standards to define terms included in the unit standards.  For example, Workplace Procedures and Product Specifications.

The unit standard categorised as category D will expire at the end of December 2010.
