Replacement qualifications
National Diploma in Building Control Surveying (Small Buildings) [Ref: 1486]
National Diploma in Building Control Surveying (Medium and Large Buildings) [Ref: 1487]
Date new versions published April 2009
The next qualification review is planned to take place during 2013.
Summary of review and consultation process
A Sector Expert Group was convened during 2006 to update the qualification because it no longer met the needs of the sector and did not reflect operational or legislative requirements. In particular, it did not meet the requirements of the Building Act 2004 or the requirements of section 18 of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006. All strand standards (including some in the optional strand) were reviewed and replaced or designated expiring. New standards were developed, where necessary, to meet the new requirements for Building Officials under the Act. The decision was made to designate the qualification as expiring and develop new qualifications that recognised the knowledge and skills of building control surveyors working with small, and medium and large buildings.
The review was endorsed by the Sector Expert Group which included representatives from Territorial Authorities, the Department of Building and Housing, and the Building Officials Institute of New Zealand.
Main changes resulting from the review
Two new qualifications the National Diploma in Building Control Surveying (Small Buildings) [Ref: 1486] and the National Diploma in Building Control Surveying (Medium and Large Buildings) [Ref: 1487] were developed to meet the requirements of the Building Act 2004 and current requirements for Building Control Authority staff.
